Hello Kitty Stained Glass Sun Catcher

Ok, Ok... I have to admit, I’ve developed a habit—upcycling discarded items that I find worthy of restoring, repurposing, or retrofitting. I hear it's a serious condition called "Pickupitaus" and I might need to see someone about it! ;-)

My friends are aware of this condition and pick up objects they find which I might like. In this case some good friends happen to see a pair of abandoned old "lead came" side table lamps made with pink stained glass and thought of me.

Once I saw the pink iridescence glass, I knew a “Hello Kitty” stained glass sun catcher was on the project list as one of the donators of the lamps is a huge fan of the character. I combined three images I found online to create the design and carefully applied my glass cutting and DIY stained glass skills to bring it to life.

For the finer details, I used beads for the eyes and nose, and electric wire for the whiskers. The glass soldering was finished with a copper patina, adding a polished look to the piece. The final result stands approximately 10" tall and is a unique stained glass art creation, blending creativity with upcycled materials. This project reflects my passion for combining stained glass techniques with repurposed objects to craft distinctive glass creations.

Donated lamps.

As the lamp bases are cast bronze, they'll be saved for a future project.
