Stained Glass Cylindrical Pendant Light

These 6.5" diameter stained glass pendant lights were custom-designed and built for my front porch, blending both DIY stained glass and metal elements. The glass used for the project comes from leftover materials from previous designs, demonstrating the versatility and creativity involved in custom glass design.

The pendant light’s top is crafted from scrap ventilation tin sheet, which has been folded and riveted together. To assemble the glass, I used the glass soldering foil technique, and finished it with black patina for a cohesive look, then applied a coat of carnauba wax for added sheen and protection. The tin top is painted in flat black to match the patina, seamlessly blending the industrial and artistic aspects of the piece.

The glass cutting process allowed me to create a beautiful combination of textures and colors. The shade itself is a mix of clear wavy glass, clear ripple light and dark green glass and smoky iridescent glass as the centerpiece. When the stained glass lights up at night, they produce stunning starburst patterns on the ceiling, enhancing the ambiance of the porch.

The entire piece, from the loop to the bottom, measures 12" tall, with the tin top extending to a 7.25" diameter. This project highlights the perfect balance of stained glass techniques, resulting in a truly unique light fixture.
